Review of The Secret Crush Book Club (Peach Blossom, #3) by Mina V. Jones

Sometimes, a book finds you at just the right moment. For me, The Secret Crush Book Club from Mina V. Jones came along when I was knee-deep in the throes of parenthood and searching for connection in the strangest of places. The premise—a lonely single mom who joins a book club led by a mesmerizing librarian with a secret—had me intrigued from the first page. With themes of love, friendship, and the bittersweet nature of loneliness, this story promised to resonate on multiple levels.

Dani, our relatable protagonist, is navigating the tricky waters of single motherhood and co-parenting with her ex-husband. This aspect added a layer of authenticity that I truly appreciated. As an audience, we often find ourselves rooting for our characters through their struggles, and Dani’s journey is no exception. While the tension surrounding her parenting did engage me, I found myself slightly disappointed with how the storyline with her ex-husband was handled. It felt a bit unresolved, almost like a plot hole that was left hanging. But maybe that’s life—messy and unresolved, mirroring our own experiences.

And then there’s Zoey, the charming librarian. Her character adds a delightful spark of energy to the tale. I adored her temperament and found myself rooting for her from the very beginning. However, the secret she kept from Dani and the town left me underwhelmed. It felt a bit shallow compared to the rich emotional landscape the story painted. I wish there had been more depth there, a stronger reason that tethered her actions to the overall narrative.

The pacing of the book was spot-on. It flowed effortlessly, keeping me hooked from start to finish, and Angel Pean’s narration was the cherry on top. I’ve previously enjoyed her work in The Kiss Countdown by Etta Easton, and she didn’t disappoint here either. Her voice imbued each character with life, and I never felt the urge to adjust my listening speed. It was like being enveloped in a cozy blanket of words—warm, inviting, and wholly engaging.

The romance between Dani and Zoey was beautifully sweet, filled with cute moments that blossomed into sizzling chemistry. I enjoyed how the sexual tension built up throughout the narrative; it reflected the overarching sweetness of their connection. The well-crafted scenes added spice without overshadowing the central story, balancing perfectly.

Ultimately, while The Secret Crush Book Club had its minor quirks, I found myself thoroughly entertained and invested in Dani and Zoey’s journey. This book is ideal for anyone who loves friends-to-lovers stories and appreciates a sapphic romance in a small-town setting. It would particularly resonate with readers navigating complicated family dynamics or seeking connection—both in friendship and in love.

After wrapping up this audiobook, I was left with a strong urge to dive into Jones’ previous works, and I’ve already added them to my reading list. If this book is any indication of her storytelling prowess, I can’t wait to explore more of her charming worlds and characters!

In the end, reading this felt like a warm cup of tea—comforting and fulfilling, even with its slight imperfections. I can’t wait to see where Mina V. Jones leads us next in this delightful series!
